Increase your engagement by strengthening your relationships with your followers using these hacks

When posting a piece of social content ask yourself these set of questions to ensure the post is as engaging as possible.

1. Will this post grab the attention of my followers? 

2. Would someone like this post?

3. Is this post intriguing enough for someone to capture someone's attention?

4. Could this post be relatable enough to be shared?

5. Would someone save this post?

 

1. TAKE THE TIME TO ENGAGE WITH YOUR AUDIENCE

Let's start with the simplest strategy of all, and that is engaging with your audience. It's called social media for a reason, so let's get socialising!

1. Reply to all comments on your posts.

2. Reply to direct message.

3. Visit your follower's profiles and leave meaningful comments.

4. Engage with your follower's Instagram stories.

 

2. RESHARE USER GENERATED CONTENT

User-generated content (UGC) is a great strategy guaranteed to boost your engagement levels; think of it as the modern-day equivalent of word-of-mouth.

UGC is content that is created by one of your customers,

UGC just like word of mouth is a form of content that is seen as genuine and honest amongst your followers.

The strategy of sharing user-generated content is to serve a purpose, consider whether it is to inspire your audience, share a product, highlight a raving review or help a customer decide.

Great examples of this are sharing a selfie of a brow client.

UGC will influence customers purchasing decisions; they might see customers that are similar to them, i.e., age, appearance, etc., which will help them decide if the product/ service they are promoting is right for them.

Social etiquette TIP: Don’t forget to credit the source by tagging and mentioning their account. Before posting, always make sure you get approval from your client first.

Encourage your followers to click on your content by adding poll stickers to your stories!

You can literally poll your followers about anything – It doesn’t even have to be about you or your business; it could be something funny or off-topic.

By polling your followers, their interaction tells the Instagram algorithm that they’re interested in your content, improving your chances of your content being prioritized in their feeds.

4. TAG OR MENTION OTHER ACCOUNTS IN YOUR POSTS AND STORIES

Did you know that tagging and mentioning are used interchangeably but refer to two different things,

Let me explain... a @mention is achieved by placing the ‘@’ symbol in front of somebody’s Instagram handle in a comment on a post or caption on a photo.

If you mention a user in a post, story, or comment, Instagram will send them a notification they have been mentioned.

Tagging an account on Instagram is done in your post's image, where you can tag other accounts in that image.

Only the original creator can tag people in the post, but anyone can do a @mention.

So if someone mentions an account by commenting on your post or tags someone in a post, that image will appear in their tagged section, which increases your chances of discoverability from other Instagram users.

1. Ask customers if you can mention or tag them on your socials

2. Post images of your customers and tag or mention them

3.Tag and mention local businesses around you (when appropriate)

4.Tag and mention any brands you are using in the post

5. LISTEN CLOSELY TO YOUR COMMUNITY

Listening to your community can be a powerful tool in helping improve your account engagement.

How do you listen? By monitoring the comments on posts, the messages in your DMs, conversation trails under posts, and what people react to on stories,

Look at the language your followers use and the questions they ask, ensure to mimic that back, and address any reoccurring questions in your posts.

 

6. ENCOURAGE COMMENTS

Encouraging comments on your posts is a great way to increase engagement.

The best way to do this is to ask an open-ended question.

Think of it as a conversation, end your posts with a question to your followers, and when they respond, don't disappear mid-sentence (you wouldn't do this in real life), reply, and encourage the conversation to flow.

 

7. DRUM UP EXCITEMENT WITH A COUNTDOWN ON YOUR STORIES
